Okay, we admit it...we've clearly taken a vacation from our blogging duties of late. We have not, however, been taking a break from our adventures. To the contrary, we've been so very busy that we've simply not had the time to process and report our ongoing explorations.
Starting in Dublin and London, and then off to Art Basel Miami and Brazil, the past few months have been filled with art, parties, art, food, art, travel, art, cocktails, art, theatre, art and more, you guessed it, ART. The ADAA fair, Works on Paper, the Armory Show, Pulse, Scope, DiVA - we did them all and suffered total sensory overload. That being said, we have recovered and are now looking forward to the spring gallery season, seeing new work from our favorite artists and continuing to make new discoveries.
One of our favorite new finds is Kenneth Parris, III. We visited his impressive Brooklyn studio with a dear friend on Tuesday night, where Ken gave us an articulate, entertaining and lively overview of his work. Trained as an illustrator, Ken reveals skilled draftsmanship in all of his paintings and installations. Combining collage, various paints and media, found objects, and wood-working, his work shows a great depth in composition and content. He's just been profiled in Fringe Underground, an online magazine worth noting for its spot-on commentary. It's such a strong profile that we are a bit embarrassed to be writing our own observations in the same paragraph... Anyway, we are hoping to get the inside scoop on when his next Direct Action Art performance will occur - where Ken positions removable cardboard constructions over subway advertisements - so we can nab a work for ourselves.
Ken also fed us wine, cheese and olives - and even an expertly mixed gin & tonic - for which we were extremely grateful. It made our commute back to Manhattan all the merrier.
